Med Spa project update

I am super excited to give you a little update on my med spa project! The project will be done in a couple weeks! We are in the final phase of the project and I just have to do the final step which is accessories shopping! Before I can unveil the final product here is an inspiration board of some of the items from the project.

So sorry I’ve been MIA again for almost 2 months. I’ve been super duper busy as usual. I do have some good news though. I am working on an interior design project! I am currently designing a med spa in Riverside. I guess the universe must have heard me when I told it I really miss interior design and wanted to get back into it . It is also one of the reasons why I’m so extra busy lately and so behind on my blogging. I’ve been busy working on this project along with my wedding and event planning as well and juggling 2 jobs. I can’t wait to be busy enough with interior design and event planning so I can quit all my side jobs haha.

I can’t wait for the project to be done in a couple months so stay tuned for pics. I have big plans for 2011 and one of the items on my checklist for the new year is to have an website up for my interior design work. Here’s to many more interior design projects in 2011!

I miss interior design

I am so sorry I’ve been MIA for the past couple of months. I’ve been super busy with my event planning business and just trying to keep up with life in general. By the way, if you want to know what’s up with me you can always check out my 2 other blogs. Yes, I said it right I have 2 other blogs haha. If this is your first time visiting this blog you might now know that I have my own wedding and event planning business and I also do freelance photography. Now, on to the subject of this post. Well, for those of you who know me know that I was an interior designer for 5 years before I started my own wedding and event planning business over 2 years ago. When the economy was going down hill a couple years ago I got laid off so since I’ve always been obsessed with weddings…and events in general I decided to do it full time. Finally after 2 years things are finally really picking up for my event planning business. I really love what I do now, being able to help clients and friends plan their events and taking photographs of the events too. You would think that this is enough to keep me busy but now. Well in the back of my mind I am still waiting for an opportunity to get back into the interior design world. I am hoping next year things will get even better and hopefully I’ll get a chance to work on some freelance interior design work. I would love to start with a small commercial or hospitality project since that is my background. I so wanna design a small restaurant! So if you know anyone who’s thinking of opening a restaurant have them call me!

Over the past 10 years I’ve gone from a floral designer, an interior designer, and now a wedding planner and wannabe photographer. Let’s just say I want to conquer the creative world! muahahahaha (evil laugh) ;P

I’ve been working nonstop the past couple of years and I know that one day it is all gonna be worth it. I really love what I do and I know some may say that I need to just focus on one thing but that’s just not me. People say that when you are a “jack of all trade” you are a “master of nothing” but I beg a differ. I like to think I am the “master” of “jack of all trade” lol. I will never stop doing the best I can at everything I do. I have high standards for the people I work with and I hold the same standards for myself as well. I can’t help it if I just love doing everything! I know I’m crazy but I guess I need to be a little crazy to last in this business haha I was given this crazy natural energy and I want to take advantage of it while I still got it Yes, I do not need coffee to keep me going haha. Let’s just say I am high on life haha…so dorky I know but that’s ok cus I am a dork

I guess since I didn’t discover my creative side until I was in my early 20′s I’ve been going full speed ever since. I may be working 7 days a week but since I do love everything I do I don’t really see it as work. I am very thankful for all my friends and family who have supported me through my journey so far and I know that this is only the beginning.

Hotel Maya – My Muse

Last week I visited Hotel Maya in Long Beach for the first time and boy did this hotel take my breath away! I just fell in love with everything about this hotel. I’ve been a huge fan of boutique hotels since I was in design school. I even designed a boutique hotel for my thesis project. I am always looking for boutique hotels to stay at whenever I travel. I am so glad there is finally one close to my house!

I really love the vibrant colors and all the textures in the space. The mix of modern and organic elements is just perfect! I can really live there! One of my favorite parts of the hotel is the courtyard area. I can just imagine people getting married there with the port of Long Beach as their backdrop. My ultimate favorite would have to be the restaurant inside Hotel Maya. Fuego was definitely designed with the view of the water in mind. When you are sitting in the dining area you can’t tell if you are sitting inside or outside the restaurant. One of my favorite parts of the restaurant is the bar area right at the edge of the restaurants. You can enjoy a drink looking out at the water. The bar was designed with glass front so the view is not interrupted at all. Love it! I think Hotel Maya designed their space without overlooking any details. I love every bit of it!

Hotel Maya definitely inspires me to work even harder toward my dream of designing a boutique hotel.

I only took a couple pictures so I encourage everyone to check out Hotel Maya in person. I will probably be back next week to have lunch there or something

USGBC Networking Party

This past Tuesday I went to a networking party for the LA Chapter of the Emerging Green Builders. It’s been way too long since I’ve been in the loop with the interior design world and particularly with the US Green Building Council. I am so glad I went out. I brought my little brother along since he’s in school working toward an architecture degree. I can’t wait til he’s done with school so we can work together!

I am gonna work my butt off to get some projects within the next 6 months and get my portfolio into shape. So stay tuned…

A visit from a friend in heaven…

I was debating whether or not I should write about this but since its been on my mind I thought it is best to just let it out. Two nights ago my friend came to visit me in my dream.

Even though I have 2 other blogs I thought it would be appropriate to write on my interior design blog since my friend who passed away was also a client of mine. I will not use her name to protect the privacy of her family.

About a month before she passed away she contacted me to possibly remodel her family room. I haven’t seen her in almost 2 years and was really excited to help her with another project. Before we got a chance to set a date to meet, I got a text from her telling me the project will have to wait, but she didn’t give me a reason. She asked me if she can take some cooking lessons from me instead. I was excited about giving her some cooking lessons and told her to let me know whenever she is ready. A couple weeks later I got a text from her husband telling me she’s in the hospital. Less than a week later she was gone…

I wasn’t able to make it to her funeral but I went to the viewing. There was this beautiful picture of her at the viewing and in my dream she looked exactly like that. In the dream we were just having dinner and hanging out. I had to call her husband to tell him about the dream.

In the Chinese and Buddhist culture we believe that after someone has passed away they have 49 days to say goodbye to their friends and family before they reincarnate. I truly believe that she came by to say goodbye. I told my mom she came to visit me in my dream and my mom told me it is very endearing when someone comes into your dream within the 49 days to say goodbye. I know she is in a good place now and looking down on all of us. She left this world way too early but I know that her memories will always be with us. I will always remember one of the last things she said to me on the phone…she told me I was one of the most talented people she know. I will always remember that and will continue to work hard to be the best I can be.

I will have to wait til our next life to help her with the remodel and teach her some of my cooking skills. Until we meet again my friend…
